The 6.9-inch screen and Apple's longer UK video-playback figure make a persuasive large-phone package. The £1,299 price and 249g weight balance those advantages. We have not verified its camera quality or mixed-use endurance.

FIRST VERDICT

Choose the size, not the status.

The Max makes most sense if reading, editing photos or watching video on a large screen is part of your day. Do not buy it simply because it sits at the top of the range: try the weight with a case, and make sure the larger keyboard and reach work for you.

For an iPhone 17 Pro Max owner, battery claims alone are not a complete upgrade case. Wait for mixed-use testing and compare the full cost of changing phones. The smaller Pro deserves a look if the Max already feels cumbersome.

Worth shortlisting if

You regularly read, edit or watch video on your phone.
You are happy to carry a large handset with a case.
You want the longest UK battery figures in the new Pro pair.

Keep your options open if

Your current Max is already too heavy for comfortable use.
You rarely use the extra screen space.
You need independent battery and camera testing before deciding.

What aperture means

The opening inside the main lens can change size. Both Pro models offer four settings, from f/1.48 to f/4.0. Opening it wider lets in more light; stopping down can bring more of a scene into focus. Camera specifications

That is more useful to understand than simply hearing “better camera”. It gives photographers another choice, but it does not guarantee a sharper picture of a moving child or a cleaner night shot. Those are things to test.

A20 Pro: graphics and cooling get attention

Apple claims up to 40% faster GPU performance than A19 Pro and a redesigned vapour chamber with three times the previous generation’s surface area. Those are manufacturer comparisons, not our benchmarks. Apple launch claims

A bigger cooling system matters when a game, video export or recording session runs for a while. It does not mean every everyday task becomes 40% faster, or that the phone never feels warm.

For most buyers, the sensible test is whether the extra performance improves something their current phone struggles with. We would not replace a smoothly running phone for a chip name alone.

Apple’s UK video figure rises by six hours over the iPhone 17 Pro Max, but the handset also gains 18g. That trade-off is worth trying in your hand, especially with a protective case.

UK models retain a nano-SIM tray. Do not substitute the higher battery figures Apple gives for eSIM-only versions sold in some other markets.

Apple quotes up to 50% charge in around 15 minutes with a suitable 60W-capable or higher USB-C adapter supporting AVS, sold separately. That is an adapter requirement, not a claim of constant 60W charging. Charging conditions

The display remains the same advertised size as the 17 Pro Max. Think of this as a camera-control and endurance update, not a new form factor. Keep the older Max if it still delivers what you need; investigate the 18 if those particular changes address a real frustration.

Apple now lists its C2 modem for the Pro Max in the UK specifications, alongside Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6. Coverage and speed still depend on your network provider, location and congestion.

The larger display gives photos, maps and text more room, but pocket fit and one-handed reach matter too. A large screen is only an advantage when you enjoy using the whole phone.

Is this still a rumour page?

Should I choose the Pro or Pro Max?

Start with size and comfort, then compare cost and battery figures. The smaller Pro is easier to accommodate; the Max gives reading and editing more space. A higher price does not automatically make the Max better for you. Read the iPhone 18 Pro assessment.

Can I use a physical SIM in the UK model?

Yes. Apple lists nano-SIM and eSIM support for the UK models. Check the exact regional version when importing a phone; other markets sell eSIM-only versions. UK SIM details
